Since 2007, the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival has donated more than $80,000 to music-education programs around the North Shore.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Dispersed scholarships for students to attend regional music camps

  • Made grants to area group homes and after-school music programs

  • Donated money and new equipment to the North Shore High School jazz bands

  • Created a weekly percussion workshop at Greater Salem Boys & Girls Club

  • Produced more than 100 free concerts

  • Run an annual music-related art contest for elementary school children

  • Created an 8-week interactive music class for children on the autism spectrum

  • Developed an intern program in which local high-school students can learn audio production

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

As part of the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival's ongoing mission to support music education initiatives on Massachusetts' North Shore we welcome you to submit an application for funding.

The festival funds 501(c)(3) nonprofits and school music programs with $500–$1,000 grants for projects, scholarships and equipment purchases. Applications are due May 15, awards are announced June 15, and checks are mailed out Sept. 1.

Who can apply

  • 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations located on the North Shore

  • Public or private school music programs serving North Shore students

What we fund

  • Projects that expand music education or performance opportunities

  • Student scholarships for music study

  • Music equipment and instrument purchases

Grant amounts

  • Awards range from $500 to $1,000

Important dates

  • Application deadline: May 15

  • Award announcements: June 15

  • Checks mailed: September 1

How to apply

  • Prepare a brief proposal that includes:

    • Organization or school name and contact information

    • Description of the project or need

    • How the funds will be used

    • Number or age range of students served

    • Project timeline and expected outcomes

    • Budget showing how the grant will be spent

  • Submit your completed application by May 15 (follow the festival’s application form or submission instructions)

Selection and reporting

  • Awards are decided by the festival selection committee and announced on June 15

  • Grant recipients will receive checks mailed on September 1

  • Recipients may be asked to provide a short report or documentation showing how funds were used
