DONATIONS Please consider making a donation - big or small! Your contributions allow us to increase our donations to Salem's public music programs, and to keep some of our great events available to the public free of charge.
May 2008
Dear Prospective Sponsor,
In 2007, the first ever Salem Jazz and Soul Festival took place. We held our first fundraiser in April, staged four free musical performances in historic Derby Square, and supported more than a dozen evening performances in clubs and other venues across Salem throughout the summer. On August 18th, we concluded the series with the main event, the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival. The event featured six hours of live music, five bands, food, crafts by local artisans — all on the Willows' beautiful shoreline. Our display of Salem's long history with jazz, spotlighting the Salem Willows Casino's former Charleshurst Ballroom, paid tribute to the place where internationally known big bands such as Duke Ellington played from the 1920s to 1950s. The Festival raised $2,500 for music education programs in Salem.
In 2008, we kicked off the Festival series with a fundraiser auction on April 12. Throughout the summer, we will once again host a series of free daytime events, a number of key special events, and the 10-day Festival itself, which will run from August 8-17, 2008. We also plan to introduce Music Education Programs —“master classes” that will precede or accompany music events. Proceeds from the Festival will benefit music education programs in Salem. We are currently incorporated as a Massachusetts nonprofit, and expect to complete the filing process for Federal 501(3)c status later this year.
We’re seeking your support in helping us make 2008 an even bigger success than last year. Below you will find sponsorship materials and background about the Festival. While we're still looking to cover a significant fundraising target to be able to present these concerts for free, any donation - big or small - will directly help our cause.
Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
The Fundraising Committee of the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival
