Dear Prospective Sponsor,
In 2010, the fourth annual Salem Jazz and Soul Festival took place.
We held a sold out fundraiser in April, staged four free musical
performances in conjunction with Berklee College of Music in historic
Derby Square, held our main event - the 2-day Salem Jazz and Soul
Festival - in August, and wrapped up the series with our fall
fundraiser in October.
Our main event, the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival, featured 12 hours
of live music, a VIP area, crafts by local artisans — all on the Salem
Willows' beautiful shoreline. The festival also featured a Kids Tent
where children and their parents explored musical instruments and
connected with local music educators. We staged mini-music
education classes like guitar instruction and discussions about music
theory.
The Salem Jazz and Soul Festival is a 501(c)3 non-profit
organization. In addition to allowing us to provide free music
performances to the public, proceeds from the festival benefit music
education programs on the North Shore of Massachusetts. During
our inaugural Festival season in 2007, we donated $2,500 to music
education programs at Salem High School. In 2008, we more than
doubled that amount, donating $6,000 to the Salem Public Schools
and the Plummer Home for Boys’ music initiatives. In 2009 we raised
$6,000 for music education programs. 2009’s beneficiaries include
Salem High School, STARR Access Program, Salem Academy
Charter School and The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem. An
additional $1,000 is being used to bring musicians into Salem schools
in 2011. In 2010, despite another tough fundraising climate, we raised
$4,000 for music education programs, bringing our four-year total to
$19,550. 2010 beneficiaries include Salem High School, Collins
Middle School and Bates Elementary School.
In 2011, we're once again committed to expanding our donations to
music education programs and bringing together the Salem
community and its visitors with free music. Please help us continue to
reach our goals. Any donation - big or small - will directly help our
cause. We are a federally recognized non-profit organization, so
donations to the festival are tax deductible to the extent allowed
under IRS tax codes.
Please contact us about sponsoring the festival - we'd love to hear
from you! Thank you for your consideration and support.
Sincerely,
The Fundraising Committee of the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival
